Balzac

Helping to power southern Alberta

CNOOC International is a 50% partner and operator of a natural gas fired combined cycle power station located in Balzac, Alberta.  The Balzac Power Station generates 120 megawatts of power for the Alberta electricity grid.

CNOOC International is also a 50% partner in the 70.5-megawatt Soderglen Wind Farm in Southern Alberta. We use the carbon credits associated with its clean power generation to help meet our greenhouse gas compliance obligations for our Alberta-based operations.

Abandonment and Reclamation - Sulphur Base Pad Area Remediation

The Balzac Abandonment and Reclamation project continues with the remediation and reclamation of the former gas plant site in addition to field well and junctions.  CNOOC International continues to work with the Alberta Energy Regulator to ensure that all regulatory expectations are met.

Operations are planned for up to seven days a week at times. We have implemented operating procedures to minimize dust and odours, with on-site activities continuing to be monitored.
